A packed room watching the Jim Croce Tribute at Triumph Brewery
A full house at Triumph Brewery, Red Bank, NJ.

The show

A celebration of Jim Croce and Maury Muehleisen's songs and music.

Johnny Kasun's Jim Croce Tribute is a heartfelt tribute to the timeless music of Jim Croce, one of America's most beloved and influential singer-songwriters. With soulful storytelling, rich harmonies, and acoustic arrangements that echo Croce's original recordings, the band brings the classics back to life on stage.

Every performance is a journey through the warmth, humor, and poignant simplicity that made Croce a legend — the barroom characters, the love songs, and the guitar interplay between Croce and Maury Muehleisen that fans still talk about fifty years later. Whether an audience has loved these songs since 1972 or is hearing them for the first time, the invitation is the same: sit back, sing along, and remember what made the '70s so golden.

Format

Run time: 90–120 minutes. Single-set or two-set with intermission; we'll format to your house.

Configuration

Nine-piece full band, five-piece, or trio — scaled to the room. The full band is the show; the smaller lineups keep the arrangements intact for rooms under 150.

Johnny Kasun

Johnny Kasun is a guitarist, songwriter, and producer — a born-and-bred New Jersey native, based near Red Bank and Asbury Park. He performs across genres from classical to rock, is a sideman for Jersey Shore artists including Jake Thistle, Williams Honor, and Cole Hallman, and plays regularly as guitarist for The Linda Ronstadt Experience featuring Tristan McIntosh.

He specializes in fingerstyle guitar in the tradition of Tommy Emmanuel, Chet Atkins, and Jerry Reed, and leads his own original rock project, Johnny Kasun and the Johnny Kasuns. Croce's music has been a lasting influence, and this tribute is the project he built around it.

Watch and listen

Full-length live performance videos and short clips are on the media page — including I Got a Name, Operator, Time in a Bottle, Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, and You Don't Mess Around with Jim filmed live at Triumph Brewery, plus Careful Man and Age filmed live at the Avenel Performing Arts Center.

Why it works for your room

  • A catalog everybody knows. Croce's hits are radio staples and draw across a wide age range — listeners who bought the records, and younger audiences who found the songs through film and streaming. Croce draws over 8 million monthly listeners on Spotify (more than James Taylor!), yet there are few other opportunities to hear his music performed live — especially with a full band.
  • Local history, not just local music. Croce was born in South Philadelphia, raised in Drexel Hill, and wrote on a farm in Chester County; the lead guitar that defines those records belongs to Maury Muehleisen, a Trenton native who hired Croce as his accompanist before the roles reversed and played on all three Croce albums. Across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland, audiences treat these songs as their own — and revere the men who made them.
  • Proven in both settings. The show has filled a brewery dining room and a seated performing arts center, with the same material scaled to fit.
  • Listening-room friendly. Acoustic instrumentation and moderate stage volume suit theaters, arts centers, libraries, and dining rooms as easily as breweries and outdoor stages.
  • Flexible. Set length, band size, and volume can all be scaled to the date.
  • Promotion support. Shows are pushed to the band's mailing list and social channels, with artwork and photos supplied for your calendar and posters.

Technical and hospitality

Stage sizeNine-piece: 24′ × 16′ minimum (28′ × 18′ comfortable). Five-piece: 18′ × 12′. Trio: 12′ × 10′. Drum riser welcome, not required. We’ve worked tighter — send dimensions and we’ll tell you what fits.
Inputs / channelsNine-piece: 20 inputs — 6 vocals, 6 drums, stereo keys, bass DI, pedal steel, two guitars (DI or mic’d amp). Five-piece: 13. Trio: 8. Four monitor mixes minimum, six preferred. A full stage map and input list can be provided separately.
Backline providedBand provides all instruments and stage amplification — drums, bass and guitar amps, pedal steel and rig, keyboard, and acoustic amp. Venue typically provides PA, monitors, and engineer — but we can also bring ours. Happy to share a house kit or backline on multi-act bills; a few armless stools or chairs for the seated players is the only ask.
PAHouse PA and engineer preferred. Nine-piece needs a console with 20+ inputs and four monitor sends; the trio runs comfortably on a small powered system. Rooms without a system: we can bring a full PA and engineer for audiences up to roughly 150, quoted separately.
Load-in / soundcheckLoad-in 2½–3 hours before doors for the nine-piece; soundcheck runs 45–60 minutes. Five-piece and trio need about half that. We travel light and set up fast — all we need is parking near the load-in door and a clear path to the stage.
HospitalityWe are very low maintenance! Parking for two or three vehicles near the load-in. Water on stage and a place to sit between soundcheck and doors is plenty. Meals appreciated on longer days but never expected.
MerchA table in the lobby or near the door, staffed by us. Happy to work with your house split if you have one; otherwise 100% to the band is standard.
